Deward (Mich.) collection. Included here is an article (8 p., typed) entitled, Deward: a lumberman's ghost town, by Carl Addison Leech, about the town and it's "Timber King" David Ward. The article was published in Michigan History (issue Jan.-March 1944), and includes a handwritten note to John Cumming from Jennie Arnold about the article. A second article (2 p., typed) is entitled, Dedication of ghost town sought by regional groups, by Gordon Charles, 1956. Also included is a (4 p., typed) article by John Gray entitled "D. Ward, timber baron: a fair share of raisings was his driving force, 1822-1900," which was published in Michigan Conservation (issue March-April, 1968). The next article (5 p., typed) is entitled "Bellaire olden times "Fifty years ago", about the upcoming sale of the last holdings of David Ward in Kalkaska. This article was published in the Antrim County News, June 4, 1964, and does not include an author's name. The last article (9 p., typed) is entitled "David Ward: pioneer timber king", by Rolland H. Maybee, and is a reprint from Michigan History Magazine, March 1948, pp. 1-14.
